Toyohina Tomimoto was a popular geisha in the 1700s, known for her beauty and shamisen prowess, making her a sought-after celebrity. She was a favorite subject of many ukiyo-e artists, including Kitagawa Utamaro, who interpreted her likeness on okubi-e, or ukiyo-e that features a close-up portrait. Titled “The Geisha Tomimoto Toyohina”, she’s seen wearing ageboshi, a headdress worn by fashionable women to keep their oiled hairstyles safe from dust and wind.

This piece was interpreted by Kokkokai artisans on the Namiki Ukiyo-e Toyohina Tomimoto fountain pen. Made using hira maki-e that highlights flat artwork dusted with gold, it’s a beautiful addition to any Japanese pen collection.

We have for sale a brand-new Namiki Ukiyo-e Toyohina Tomimoto with a 14-karat gold nib in F. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
