The Japanese pagoda tree originated in China, where it was traditionally planted near tombs of scholars during the Zhou Dynasty. Symbolizing wisdom, knowledge, and enlightenment, it was later introduced to Japan by Buddhist priests who planted it around temples. The tree, which bloomed from late summer to early autumn, has also become a representation of tranquility. Some also believe that it is a charm for longevity.
