The moon has been a part of many myths and legends. Its influence on the Earth has fascinated artists and scientists, and continues to be a source of human inspiration. The Sailor Nihon Ookami to Gekkou (Japanese Wolf in the Moonlight) interprets the interaction between heaven and earth, represented by a solitary wolf howling at the moon. Known as the Honshū wolf, ancient Shinto believers revered it as Yama no Ōkami, or the Great Mountain Spirit.
This fountain pen has an ebonite body lacquered to perfection by elite urushi artist Ikki Morioke, the apprentice of Maki-e master Ikkou Kiyose. It features a blend of silver and gold against a dark blue background, offering different visual textures that add to the scene’s mystical appeal. A two-tone, 21-karat gold nib finishes the piece.
